The graph = The future?

Life as a curator of the Graph

So going through the weeks as a curator for the graph I have got to experience the tool quite some, and realised where it falls short of course but more importantly where it is, or could beb, heading. I must admit, not all the tasks were straight forward, but I was pushed to learn, and I can’t stress this enough, learn. This was not the typical “post something about the graph” project, they actually thought out ways to make you understand the project.

So down to the weakness of i, it is 2020 after all so let’s get it over with. I would say that there were tons of guides, but ironically finding which one that would be most useful was less than easy in the google sheet (database) used was less than easy, for some I actually spent more time looking through to find the best guide than actually doing the task. On one task the agreed upon best guide was in Russian and should be used with google translate (which worked amazingly well btw).

All in all, great experience, helpful community, I learned a lot but not without flaws, but neither am I.

(P.S. at some point in time could we, in the whole of crypto, please find a way to get a way from google forms, really start to bother me to see them everywhere)

Where could the graph go from here?

In my current position I have more than once been in a situation where I need to find a database of information, first of all it is time consuming just to find which ones provide it, and this is if you are trying to find local ones were you are, if you are searching in e.g. English for databases in Germany you will miss out on a lot of choices for sure.

In addition, you might, due to organisational rules and financial efficiency, need to request quotes from more than one just to compare prices and what they offer.

To be honest, I can see myself using the graph for all of this in the future, I am looking forward to it, it looks bright, which is not easy to say in 2020…

Imagine having one place where you can connect to and receive the information, not just one place but it is not centralised, can’t stress that enough. In addition one place where you don’t even have to pay a large upfront fee just to use of a test case for 100 queries just to see if it is useful, this is, in my view and field, revolutionary and I could hardly be more excited about it!

What does it need to take the next step?

In my view the concept is excellent, it is need and the technology is all there, however there are some areas of which it needs to improve.

E.g. improve search functionality, not in the subgraphs but in the explorer it is not the easiest at this point.

It of course needs ambassadors, local ones that actually sell it. At some point it will most likely go by it self but we are not there, not just yet so until then it will need help to grow.

Do I feel differently after going through the weeks of being a curator?

Yes definitely , I would say I am more excited since I understand more of it, but at the same time I realise that I was still falling short in some areas when it came to technical knowhow and it definitely needs a lot of shorter walkthroughs. While writing this I do realise I am more excited about this as a tool in my everyday life than as a cryptoinvestment, that is probably a first.
